This is the first wedding cake I have done.  The bride didn't know she was getting a cake and her mom said that the groom was proud of his Irish heritage.  I found ribbon that closely matched the tartan for his family and used that as the border.  The father of the bride insisted on a bride and groom on top and it was harder to find one that fit on the top of the cake than I thought it would be.  In the end I thought it turned out okay.

This is by far the biggest cake I have ever made.  It was made to feed 90.  It was so heavy that I couldn't lift it.

It had to spend the night in our fridge.  Luckily, it was emptied out for our vacation the next day.

 

Lego Birthday Cake for a brother and sister.  It ended up looking a little more Seussical than I had hoped for but I think it still looked good.

Cake, Cake and More Cakes

For the past two weeks I have been on a cake making binge.  I was hired to make cupcakes and a smash cake for my friend's little girl on her first birthday.  I had a hard time deciding what to do at first but after I finally came up with a plan I decided I needed to try a few things out before the big day.  Luckily, I have two friends that share a birthday and so I offered to make cakes for them.  I didn't think that we needed more cake around the house yet, R2-D2 was still being finished off. 

This one didn't turn out as planned but I still think it is cute.

I have wanted to try a pink ribbon cake ever since I saw one on a blog. 

I was glad to finally have a reason to try it out.  I will definitely use this technique again.

I love it so much I thought it deserved a second look.

I also made some mini-cupcakes for the teachers at Guss's school for a meal that the PTG provides on the night of Parent Teacher Conference but I didn't take any pictures.  That same day I also decided to make some cupcakes for a Breaking Dawn pre-party.  The cupcakes turned out great and the party was a lot of fun.

Finally, after two practice cakes and some cupcakes I finally got around to the cake that started it all.  I decided on neopolitan for the flavor because the pink, brown and white are a great color palette for a 1 year old little girl.  I had made butterfly cupcakes for Chloe's 3rd birthday and decided that they would be great again.  I am really happy with the way it turned out and so was my friend.
