8 is Great!!!

On November 3, Owen turned 8 years old!!!  It was a very special day because he also got to be baptized that day.  I had a big Relief Society activity that I had accidentally planned for the same day and so I was gone for most of the day but we got everybody up to celebrate before I left.

Owen wanted a cherry Jello poke cake for his birthday.

Guss was attempting to give him bunny ears.

He got scriptures and lots of Legos.

He got baptized and confirmed by his dad that evening.  We had lots of friends from church come and support him.

One week later he got to have an official birthday party with friends.  We went to the movie theater and saw Wreck-It Ralph.  It was a fun afternoon.

We are so blessed to have Owen in our family.  He is almost always happy.  He loves to laugh, play games, play with friends, play outside and eat good food.  He is a big tease, especially to Chloe.  He is kind to everyone and makes lots of friends.

WE LOVE YOU, OWEN!!!!

Back to School

It is back to school time for the big boys and this year Chloe got to join them.

Guss - 5th grade
Guss started at Wells Junior High this year.

Owen - 2nd Grade
Lucas was really excited until he found out he had to stay home with only Mom to keep him company.

Chloe - Kindergarten
She was super excited and couldn't wait and then we found out she didn't start until four days after the boys and so we had to add a few days to the count down.

Tiki Tiki Tembo

The first grade at Wells Elementary does and opera called Tiki Tiki Tembo every year.  The kids try out for parts, help make the set and their own costumes.  This year Owen got to participate and he really seemed to enjoy being part of the cast.  I was surprised at how williing all the kids seemed to participate.  Everyone seemed to have a really good time.

The performances were during the day and so Guss was in class.  He did get to see the performance another time.

Basketball Season

Owen really wanted to play basketball this year.  The season started while we still lived in Sanford and was still going when we moved.  Luckily, we lived close enough to let him finish out the season.  Owen really enjoyed playing and the rest of us had a good time cheering him and his team on.

ON-7N

What does this crazy title mean?  It means that my Star Wars obsessed Owen is 7!  Right now Legos (or as he calls them, mini-Legos) and Star Wars are his big obsession and so I decided to make him an R2-D2 cake and he wanted Star Wars cookies to share with his class at school.  They all took a little more work than I originally thought but they turned out great and most importantly Owen loved them.

Yoda and the Stormtrooper

Darth Vader and Bobba Fett

This is the candle cake.  I had extra cake and fondant and I couldn't bring myself to put candles in R2 so Owen got two cakes.

R2-D2
I made the legs out of rice crispy treats and then covered it all in fondant.
It was a lot of work, with a fondant mishap thrown in, but I loved the way it turned out.

Chloe really wanted to be in the picture with them.

Owen said he wanted a Lego birthday and that is what he got.  5 Lego sets.
I am not sure what I was thinking other than I love to see my kids happy.
Soon we might have enough Lego's to build a new house for us to move into.
276 piece Transport Truck Creator set.

158 piece Ninjago Ice Dragon Attack set.

Lukey was as excited as Owen.

163 piece Star Wars Luke's Landspeeder set.

166 piece Alien Conquest Tripod Invader set.

139 piece Star Wars Imperial V-wing Starfighter set.

All said he got 902 new Legos for me to step on unsuspectingly in my bare feet, two Star Wars shirts, a Star Wars popcorn tin, a few very nice birthday cards, money, a trip to Jokers and Crunchy Tacos from Taco Bell for dinner.  What a haul!

He was able to blow out the candles without passing out and so I guess we will let him turn 7.

Owen is a happy, fun-loving kid.  He loves to be around friends as much as possible and counts his siblings among his best friends.  He loves babies, Wii and playing outside.  He has been working hard and is reading better and better all the time.  Owen has started piano lessons this year and is doing really well.  We are so blessed to have Owen in our family.

We Love You, Owen!!!

Owen's Kindergarten Graduation

Owen had a great year of kindergarten.  He loved Mrs. Ackroyd and he loved all the friends he was able to play with everyday.  Mrs. Ackroyd was also Guss's teacher and she ends the year with a family picnic where the kids get to have their family come and see them get their end of year certificate.  Chloe, Lucas and I were happy to be able to go and see Owen get his awards and meet some of his friends.

Owen got an award for perfect attendance for the year.

Next up, Owen went up to get his "graduation" certificate and take a picture with his teachers, Mrs. Ackroyd and Mrs. Remick.  Owen decided that he wanted to drop into the splits as I took his picture.  No one else was doing anything like this and I am not sure where the idea came from but he took us all by surprise.

Mrs. Ackroyd was trying to figure out what was going on.

What a kid!

Off to the Races

Guss and Owen decided to take Chloe and Lucas on a piggy back race around the loop.  I think Guss and Chloe officially won but they all had a great time.
